The FDA said it is studying the drug for treating erectile dysfunction, or impotence, in men.
“We are looking at trying to get it approved in a timely manner,” said Dr. Ravi Varma, a fertility physician and medical director at Boehringer Ingelheim. “If it works well, it’s a big positive.”
In China, the vaccine is sold under the brand name Viagra. The FDA has not approved a similar version of the drug for treating the sexually transmitted disease,, and there are no vaccine or approved treatment plans for the disease in China.
For this reason, Boehringer Ingelheim and the FDA have not approved the drug to treat impotence, according to an official in Beijing.
